Mental Illness Recovery
Disclaimer- this is in no way promoting or glorifying self harm in any way. But people will self harm regardless and if they're going to do it it's better to be safe than sorry.

Cutting-

-Be careful if you switch from one tool to another or one form of self harm to cutting. It's very easy to accidentally cut deep when you were used to cutting with a duller blade or bruising or burning, for example, instead of cutting.

-Don't try to stitch cuts up yourself. It's dangerous especially if you don't sterilize the tools and it'll hurt a lot more if you do it because you don't have anesthesia to numb the area.

-Keep your skin clean- if you're in the right mindset to be able to wash the area before you cut, that can decrease the risk of infection. Your skin harbors bacteria that can infect cuts when you split the skin.

-Keep tools clean- make sure you always keep your blades or any tools you use to self harm clean to help prevent infection.

-Never share tools with other people! It's dangerous to get other people's blood in your system.

-Don't keep deep cuts covered 24/7. They need room to breathe and keeping them covered all the time will make them wet and they can star to get signs of infections.

Burning:

-Blister cushions- use these band-aids to cover burns. They help heal the burns faster and prevent infection.
-It's a good idea to keep antibiotic ointment around to put on burns
